How To Make A Long Term Diets Detox Program Work For You


Getting a diets detox is much more popular since people have become aware of the excessive levels of pollutants that can be found in our environment and in our food. The media have latched on to the phenomenon, largely because of the increasing number of celebrities who claim to get good results from detox programs. As ever when the media begin to get hold of something, there is a lot of heated debate and disagreement, which only serves to confuse even further the person who just wants to lose weight and have better health.

Diets detox programs have been published in just about every major newspaper and magazine, with the emphasis usually on a short term program for quick results. There are several serious problems with this approach, and it is these which have prompted the backlash often delivered by prominent nutritionists. Trying to do anything relating to the human body at a fast pace is always prone to failure, as nature has her own timescale. It is also undeniable that people are in entirely different states of health and physical condition, and to apply one benchmark to all would be futile.

It is wrong to consider diets detox programs as short term fixes. Yes, they have the potential to remove toxins from the body, and to do so quickly. This effect can be dramatically reinforced if you combine the detox with a colonic irrigation, or some other program designed to flush toxins out even faster. What a fast detox cannot do is undo the damage of decades of unhealthy eating overnight. If the target is optimum health, then a long term program is needed to achieve this at the pace nature decides is right for your own body.

More faddy diets such as the lemon detox diet still have their place, but because of their extreme nature they are only really suitable for certain rare circumstances. If you are basically in good health, then a fast lasting two or three days will probably be beneficial, as it will give your vital organs a chance to rest and to expel the toxins which inevitably build up even with sensible eating habits. If, on the other hand, you are overweight and unhealthy, a fast could lead to a reaction.

It would be better in these circumstances to keep any fast down to a day, or even less. If optimum health is to be obtained, the key is to dramatically lessen the intake of harmful materials in the first place. This gives the liver a chance to heal, and begin to function properly again. Until this has happened, an extreme detox diet is likely to do more harm than good. Getting rid of irritants such as tobacco, alcohol and caffeine should be the priority, followed by a replacing of saturated fat and heavy starch with healthier alternatives. Only then will you start to get results from diets detox.
